The Blandford Mammal Series: Deer
Deer are the most widespread and abundant of the world’s hoofed animals, yet their way of life has remained largely unknown.
Dr Lyster’s new insight into the lives of these animals is drawn from studies of deer all over the world and particularly from the old Caledonian forest of Glen Tanar, where the red deer have been observed for more than 50 years.

If it is your hobby to watch deer and study their behaviour, this book offers a fascinating picture of the animals. To the sportsman the book gives much needed understanding and real concern for these magnificent animals.

About the author
Raymond R. Chaplin has been deeply involved in the preservation of deer ever since he became professionally interested in the role of the Epping Forest Management Committee. Subsequently he worked with Norman Haigh (Urban Studies) on the investigation of the biology of deer in the British Isles.

His interest in wildlife photography and filming has been reflected in recorded programmes for television and many illustrated articles in magazines. Mr Chaplin is the author of many scientific books on deer and not a few of the standard works in the fields of zooarcheology and wildlife management. He is a Fellow of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, and his world-wide knowledge of mammals, wildlife and conservation has provided material for world-wide film and television programmes, as well as lecture and exhibition work for the Council for Museums and Galleries in Scotland.
